How This Calculator Works

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), then adjusts it using your activity level to calculate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).

Your calorie needs change depending on your activity level:

  • Sedentary: Little or no exercise
  • Lightly Active: Light exercise 1–3 days/week
  • Moderately Active: Moderate exercise 3–5 days/week
  • Active: At least 30 minutes most days of the week
  • Very Active: Intense training or physical work

This calculator also estimates calories for weight loss and weight gain by subtracting or adding calories from your maintenance level.
